Historical Perspectives of Naturalists Study Group
The Master Naturalist Book Study Group has chosen its slate of books to read in 2008! The first book we are going to read is: Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder, by Richard Louv.

If the first Monday is a holiday, the meeting will be moved to an alternate day.

Mar 3: We will be discussing two books on the Big Thicket (read either or both).  "The Big Thicket," by P.A.Y. Gunter and "Nature Lover's Guide to the Big Thicket" by Howard Peacock.  These books are both available on Amazon.com for as low as $1.13 used up to $14.95 new. (My experience with the used books has been very good).  Hopefully the discussion of these books will be helpful for those going on the Big Thicket field trip Mar 20,  and the topic of this ecologically interesting area exciting enough to hold the interest of others as well.

Apr 7 and May 5:  "Karankaway Country,"  by Roy Bedechek.  (Univ. of Texas Press 1981. 318 pp)   Paperbacks available new and used from Amazon from $4.60.  Hardcover also available.

June 2, July 7, and Aug 4:  "An Unreasonable Woman: A True Story of Shrimpers, Politicos, Polluters and the Fight for Seadrift, Texas" by Diane Wilson. (paperback, Chelsea Green Sept 15, 2006; 391 pages) Available from $12.94 on Amazon.com.

Sept 8: "A Stillness in the Pines, The Ecology of the Red-Cockaded Woodpecker, by Robert McFarlane. (WW Norton & Co 1994.)  (in paperback, The Commonwealth Fund Book Program).   Available from Amazon.com for $2.30 used to $10.95 new.

Oct 6: "Voyage of the Beagle" by Charles Darwin

There will be no meeting in December.
